Life in the Fast Lane!

Does your local supermarket always run out of your essential loaf of Hovis, bar of Dairy Milk or Coca-Cola? This is because these brands are all part of the multi-million Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) Industry. FMCG are the everyday items we purchase, they are termed ‘fast-moving’ because they are the quickest items to leave the supermarket shelves. They are traditionally high volume low cost products.

So What kind of Work Can I do?

Work in the FMCG industry is varied, competitive and like the name suggests fast paced!  You can start a career in this industry in a number of different fields including Sales, Marketing, Research and Development, Information Systems, Finance, Supply chain or Human Resources.

What are employers looking for?

With over 120 graduate applicants per vacancy standing out to an employer can be tough – however it is by no means impossible.

Most of the major FMCG companies offer training schemes for graduates. You are usually required to have a 2.1 at degree level or above to be applicable for one, although the subject area you studied can vary.

Is this the right career for you?

If you are ambitious, competitive and not put off by long working hours then this can be the perfect career for you. Career progression is varied in this sector and the sky really is the limit for where your job could take you.
