21 Important Lessons to Improve Your Job Interviews
It's no secret that job interviews are intimidating, but having the right attitude can take you a step closer to landing your dream job. So what does that attitude look like?
In short, it looks like confidence. That doesn't just mean having confidence in your ability to be charming and witty. While some people may have the chutzpah to walk in like they own the interview room, most grads don't fall into that category.
Real confidence comes from knowing that your qualifications fit the role and that you've prepared to the best of your ability.
According to Company Folders in the graphic below, you can prepare by:
1. Taking all the materials you need.
Bring extra copies of your resume or business cards, and always bring a hardcopy portfolio. Then you can give a presentation of your work on the spot, even if the interview room doesn't have internet access.
2. Practice good body language.
Most people act nervous in job interviews because, well, they are nervous. But confident body language helps overcome your anxiety. Instead of sticking your hands in your pockets, place them on the table and sit up straight. You'll appear attentive and poised.
3. Send a thank-you note.
Good manners are a must in any professional setting. Make sure you thank the interviewer for their time—whether you draft a handwritten note, print a letter on personalised stationery, or send an email.
