Graduate Mail | Arcadia - A leading Fashion Retailer
(26th September 2008)
Apply today and join a leading fashion retailer
Arcadia Group is the UK’s largest privately owned fashion retailer with more than 2,500 outlets. We own seven of the high street’s best-known fashion brands, Burton, Dorothy Perkins, Evans, Miss Selfridge, Topman, Topshop, Wallis – along with the shopping concept Outfit.
At Arcadia, our people play a vital part in our success. That’s why we’re committed to supporting the development of our team and recognising their contribution to our business.
We are always on the lookout for the brightest and most talented graduates to join our teams and we are currently looking for commercial graduates to join us as merchandise administrative assistants.
The role
Do you know how many black skirts we’ll sell in a London store versus one in Manchester this weekend? Our merchandisers do.
Merchandising is about having fashion’s equivalent of a crystal ball – predicting how many of each item we’ll sell, in what colour, what size and when. Having enough in stock to satisfy demand but not having too many left at the end of the season is a core retailing skill.
Looking at past and future trends, current sales figures and stock availability, merchandisers complement the buyer’s role by ensuring the right number of items is bought for each store.
Career path
The path through merchandising reflects that of buying. You’ll start out as a Merchandiser’s Administration Assistant, supporting the team by analysing sales, monitoring stock figures and keeping on top of trends. The next step would be Assistant Merchandiser, then Merchandiser, Merchandising Manager and finally Merchandising Director.
Skills and knowledge
You’ll need strong analytical and numerical skills, commercial knowledge and the ability to thrive in a fast-moving environment. We’ll expect you to have a relevant degree.
