How to combine work and study
I’d like to work in a role where I can continue studying and even gain qualifications, but I also need to earn money and gain experience. Any suggestions on how I can combine the two?
Choosing the right career and the right employer are vital. There are a lot of professions that include a large degree of continuous learning and will involve studying for specific qualifications. If one of these careers doesn’t appeal, there are a lot of employers that place a heavy emphasis on continuous development. Learn as much as you can about any organisation you’re applying for – you may be surprised how many include an element of learning or training alongside on-the-job experience.

If you apply to become a trainee manager at Majestic Wine, then you can combine developing all the necessary skills to become our next store manager within three years while continuing study. The role of trainee manager combines working in a fast-paced, customer focused retail outlet as part of a tight-knit team with study towards formal wine qualifications. We sponsor every trainee manager through the WSET (Wine and Spirits Education Trust) Advanced Certificate to enable them to offer fantastic advice to our customers and train other members of staff.

It is possible to work and study at the same time, or as we like to say earn and learn! Many of our employees at Tesco are able combine the two given the flexible nature of our working environment. We’re a 24/7 business so we have work patterns to suit most busy lifestyles. Tesco offers a variety of accredited courses if you work in stores and we also offer head office graduate programmes with professional qualifications such as; accountancy, human resources, marketing and property/engineering qualifications.
