Royal Navy & Royal Marines

Britain is an island nation, so we’ve always understood the importance of controlling and defending our seas.

This is still a big part of what the Royal Navy does, but by no means all.

We are first and foremost a fighting force, serving alongside our allies in conflicts around the world.  We also protect Britain’s ports, fishing grounds and merchant ships and help tackle international smuggling, terrorism and piracy.  Increasingly, we’re involved in humanitarian and relief missions, where our skills, discipline and resourcefulness make a real difference to people’s lives.
Opportunities exist in mechanical, nuclear, electrical, electronic, IT, communications and aeronautical disciplines.  Additionally you could volunteer to serve in the Submarine Service with the enticement of working with nuclear reactors or Trident strategic weapons.  You will be required to serve at sea and ashore in various locations around the UK and globally.  Starting salary is £29.5k with a £12k joining bonus with realistic earning potential of around £72k.  All submariners upon qualification receive an additional bonus of £5k and an extra £4k p.a. which grows to approximately £14k p.a. for senior nuclear reactor supervisors.

With this job you obviously have to be technically minded, but you’ll also need to be resourceful and inventive with the ability to solve complex problems in highly demanding conditions.  Above all, you’ll be concerned with the welfare, morale, training and development of your team of technicians who’ll look to you for expertise, leadership and management.

British Nationality or Dual Nationality is essential for most vacancies, however Commonwealth or Irish citizens can serve in some positions.  Eng Degrees accredited to UK Engineering Council CEng or IEng are acceptable and 180 UCAS points and five GCSEs (A* to C) or Scottish Standard grades or equivalent, which must include english and maths are also required.  The Royal Navy is an equal opportunities employer but you will need to be physically and medically fit.
