Kirsty Thomas, Trainee Business Manager/First Assistant Manager, Newcastle:

“I joined McDonald’s Trainee Business Manager Scheme in July 2009, after graduating from University with a 1st Class Honours degree in Business Management. Even though I was lucky enough to be offered seven jobs in the same week it was the job at McDonald's which attracted me as it offered a clearly defined career path with plenty of opportunities to challenge myself and progress within the business.

Less than 15 months later, I help run a multi-million pound business and help manage its 50+ employees and the expectations of thousands of daily customers. This challenge has really helped utilise the management skills I obtained whilst at university and put these into practise. I am pleased that I have been given the opportunity to take on this much accountability so early in my career. The training I have received has given me the confidence and competence to achieve my own goals, whilst delivering great business results. For me, McDonald’s offer a perfect scenario: a career which is fulfilling, flexible and challenging."

Janette Moran, Business Manager, Manchester:

“I joined McDonald’s in 1997 and during my time with the company, I studied for a Law degree which I completed in 2004. However, I decided a career at McDonald’s suited me more. I love the responsibility I am given and the interaction with the other employees in the restaurant, many of whom I now consider to be my close friends. I have just returned to work after having a ten week paid sabbatical, one of the many benefits the company offers. I have also been able to travel to Sydney with McDonald’s for a Manager’s Conference.

In 2009, I was given the fantastic opportunity to complete a Foundation Degree in Managing Business Operations, accredited by Manchester Metropolitan University and offered through McDonald’s. I currently work as a Business Manager and run my own restaurant in Manchester which employs over 100 employees. The challenges which come with this make my job thoroughly rewarding and there is always something new to get involved with. McDonald’s offer a clearly defined career path and I am confident that I will receive the support to progress even further. After all, nearly 50 percent of the Executive Team started in restaurants!”
